For the obverse of the 2025 1 oz Gold Eagle Coin, the US Mint features the iconic Lady Liberty design from the $20 Gold Double Eagle. Designed in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this beautiful visual shows the front-facing effigy of Liberty as she strides toward the viewer with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. This image includes the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet, sun rays on the horizon, and a ring of stars around the edge of the field.

The mint offers a refreshed depiction of the American bald eagle created by Jennie Norris. Designed in 2020 and introduced in mid-2021, this image shows the bald eagle’s head in left-profile relief with intricate levels of detail in its physical features.

In 1907, Augustus Saint-Gaudens redesigned two important American coins, the $10 Eagle and the $20 Double Eagle. His groundbreaking, modern depiction of Lady Liberty on the $20 Double Eagle became an icon and symbol of America’s emergence as an international power in the early 20th century. It remained on the Double Eagle until 1933 and was revived for the American Gold Eagle in 1986.
