Howard Carter’s discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in November 1922 sparked a new interest in ancient Egypt that continues to this day. It’s hard not to be intrigued by Pharaohs in particular since they were in many ways larger than life figures. It was believed that they were divine kings who were mediators between this world and the afterlife. During their reign, they were responsible for preserving the divine order of life, which was known as maat. When they died, they were ushered through the underworld and into the afterlife, where they then transferred their divine powers to the next ruling son.
