Koalas, often inaccurately referred to as koala bears, are arboreal herbivores. Like many other unique animal species from the Australian continent, the koala is a marsupial that is native to the continent. Koalas are the only extant members of the family Phascolarctidae.
While the koala appears to be a docile and cuddly animal, make no mistake, these animals can react aggressively and devastatingly to threats. This includes threats to itself and its young Joey. When threatened, koalas can use the long claws on their hands and feet, typically used for climbing trees, to fight back.
